Jomon Sugi-Japan

495 €
I wanted to see it, to feel it, to spend some time in its presence.

Jomon Sugi is one of the oldest trees in the world—some say it is 7,200 years old, others “only” 3,000. It stands in the forest of Yakushima, Japan, far from cities and crowds, a ten-hour walk to reach it.

The encounter felt almost intimidating; I wasn’t sure how to approach it.
How do you translate a life spanning thousands of years into an image?

I chose to reveal its wrinkles, the tangled confusion of its branches, its trunk shaped into almost organic forms—and its extraordinary vitality.

Awagami paper (A4 and A4 format)

The small formats are printed on Awagami paper, an exceptional traditional Japanese paper.
Made from mulberry fibers and entirely handcrafted using ancestral methods, its deckled edges and organic texture make each print unique.

A4 and A3 formats on Awagami paper are available as loose sheets only.

Framing between two panes of glass, recommended to reveal the deckled edges, is too fragile for shipping.
